Goals and Interns Responsibilities during Internship:

• The Internship program will be a One year program, and the minimum amount of time to be devoted to clinical work will be 6 days per week.
• This clinical work will consist primarily of clinical posting with optometrists / ophthalmologists and independent patient care.
• Teaching and other requirements will fill the remainder of the week.
• There will be one advisor/mentor assigned to assist the interns in activities related to the program. The advisor will act as an advocate for the interns and will provide ongoing guidance to the interns during the program.
• The interns will actively participate in department meetings & optometry grand rounds.
• The interns will spend approximately 4 days in a month in vision screening program.
• The responsibility of the interns performing clinical testing and assisting camp team in planning of the school screenings with completion of necessary paperwork.
• Emergency duties on Sunday and night emergency duties according to roster

Characteristics of the Program:

• A journal club specific to the optometry program will be held at least four times during the program for each individual intern.
• The interns will prepare and present lectures for the benefit of undergraduate/Diploma students. 3) The interns also will be involved in maintaining of the logbook of the activities done during the program period. The interns will submit the filled logbook at the end of every month and to the respective advisor for comments and feedbacks.
• The interns will also submit one interesting case report to the advisor/mentor every month.
• The teaching program will include: Studying pertinent literature as required, attending didactic lectures and presenting cases and journal articles.
• Monthly or quarterly assessment tests.
• The interns have to submit one project at the end of internship.
• At the end of the program the interns would have either observed and/or independently handled at least 500 cases.

• Vision Therapy: Basic squint evaluation Orthoptic evaluation bynocs
• Contact Lens: Basic work up Soft contact lens fitting Toric contact lens fitting RGP contact lens fitting. Scleral Contact Lens fitting.
• Glaucoma: Tonometry Perimetry Gonioscopy Disc imaging
• Ocular prosthetic: Basics of ocular prosthesis artificial eye fitting impression taking
• Diagnostics: Keratometry A – Scan Biometry B – Scan Corneal Topography & Aberrometry . OCT & Fundus Photography. FFA – Observation only.
• Operation theatre: Sterilization of OT and instruments and assisting in OT
• Community Ophthalmology: The candidates will be posted in the charitable wing of the hospital and has to attend the community outreach programs and vision screening camps in schools and colleges

Optometrist Intern Day-To-Day Responsibilities

• Assist doctors to provide outpatient care for patients with eye-related disorders and conditions
• Assist doctors in conducting routine eye examinations, including visual field tests
• Assist doctors to evaluate eye-related symptoms, such as discharge, redness, and inflammation
• Advise patients about proper eye hygiene and care
• Other: PPT &Video Creation on Eye ailments, Outreach program, Optical
