Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the second most common cause of irreversible blindness in eye next only to Diabetic Eye Disease.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a slow progressive irreversible condition of the eye wherein the pressure (IOP) inside the eye may rise causing damage to the Optic nerve of the eye. This is seen as more common in the elderly but can occur at any age group.

Symptoms

Glaucoma has no major symptoms and hence the disease can be a potentially blinding condition.

In severe cases, those with glaucoma may experience the following symptoms:

  • Sudden decline in vision quality
  • Glare and light sensitivity
  • Extreme eye pain and redness
  • Headaches
  • Nausea and vomiting

Treatment

Initial basic investigations are required to quantify the severity of the problem and also help in progression and follow-up of glaucoma.

Glaucoma diseases can be treated either through Medical, Laser or Surgery.

>80% of people are unaware that they might have glaucoma.
