PHACO COURSES AT Dr. Solanki Eye Hospital

Hands on Course

  • Duration – Two (2) weeks – 10 working days


  • Should hold valid Post Graduate Degree viz., M.S., DOMS, DNB., M.S.,, FRCS or Equivalent.
  • Must be good in ECCE / SICS ( MISICS )
  • Must know CCC
  • Previous exposure to PHACO – preferable ( at least I/A )

Course details

  • Machine for teaching will be B & L, Millennium or Geuder.
  • The trainee will be taught about Machine, microscope and various programmes by didactic lectures and by Demos,
  • We teach basic PHACO courses for beginners – like Divide & CONQUER technique or Stop & Chop, 1st day will be   orientation programme. Candidate will watch the surgeries performed by Senior Surgeons and discuss about the     technique.
  • On Second working day, we will be allotting the cases after CCC done by Trainer. So, candidate can focus on PHACO     procedure. If he is confident in CCC, he can select to do the same. In event of any problem, lost of CCC, he will lose case     but he can complete the case by other method in which he is confident.
  • Candidate will work under close supervision of Trainer or Senior Consultants. The Instruction and guidance given by     them should be followed.
  • In case of any complication, the case has to be handed over to Trainer to manage it properly and Candidate can watch the     management.
  • Recording of cases done by the candidate is allowed. He will be observed by Trainer through CC T.V. or through Observer     microscope.
  • Trainer will always be around at the time of surgery.

Last two days, candidate will be allowed to perform full case from start to end under supervision.

A log book has to be maintained by Candidate from day of joining to last day and should be duly signed by trainer at the end of the day with comments from candidate and trainer. Corrective steps will be taken according to log book. In case of non-completion of Log book furthering training will be stopped.

General Information

  • Candidate should screen the patient before surgery preferably on Slit Lamp to ascertain type of cataract and any other     problem & co-existing plan of action.
  • Post op. inspection is must
  • Candidate has to be in Hospital precisely by 9.00 a.m. everyday to have discussions with Senior Consultants on Pre &     Post Op. records.
  • Number of cases per day will be allotted by Trainer only.
  • In case of any discrepancy or problem, matter could be brought to notice of Medical Director or Chairman.
  • We use Trypan blue, in all cases, for rhexis,
  • We use methyl cellulose 2% as Viscoelastic, (if anybody wants, healon they can make arrangement by themselves)
  • We implant rigid lens in these patients. However candidate can bring foldable IOL for their benefit or supplied by Hospital     at very negotiated prices.
  • For the patients safety trainer can take over the case at any stage. Even an extraordinary delay in procedure (more than 45     minutes,) case will be handled by Trainer.
  • We prefer block anesthesia for learners.
  • Candidate has to adhere the technique which has been taught or recommended to them.
  • We give grade II to III cataract cases for beginners.
  • Number of cases – 10 (case count will start once the patient is assigned to the patient). Non-completion of case for any     reason will also be counted in their account.
  • In case of any major complications like Nucleous drop, the charges will be borne by the candidate for managing it.

Course Fee & Others

  • Course fee- 100 US $ & Rs. 3000/- per case. This course is for 2 weeks (10 working days) and should enroll for a     minimum of 10 cases. Amount in Rupees is applicable for IMC candidates only (Indians).
  • Candidate has to deposit the course fee as advance 50% to confirm the booking. Non receipt of advance will     automatically cancel the date (No excuse in this)
  • Dates once confirmed will not be canceled or changed.
  • A Change fees of 550 US $ will be levied in case of next available date.
  • No refund.
  • Candidate has to send documentation required for their temporary registration with Indian Medical Council. List will     be provided on request. A Statutory Fee of Rs.5, 000 (120US $) has to be paid for registration.

If desired can be booked separately–20 cases-400 $/, Rs – 10,000/-
